There’s something about the mountains that makes everything slow down in the best way. Whether you’re celebrating something special or just want time away together, Boone and Blowing Rock are the perfect place to reconnect.
This is a simple, thoughtfully planned couples itinerary with some of the most beautiful spots, best meals, and quiet moments in the area.
Day 1 Arrive, Unwind & Settle In
Check In & Slow Down
Plan to arrive in the afternoon so you can ease into the slower pace of the mountains. This is the time to unpack, pour a drink, and just relax for a bit.
Dinner: A Special First Night
Start your trip with a memorable dinner. Hellbender is a standout, carrying on the legacy of the beloved Bistro Roca with an intimate atmosphere and incredible food-perfect for a romantic evening.
For a truly elevated experience, Gideon Ridge is one of the top dining destinations in the area, known for its stunning setting and refined menu. Make reservations 2 weeks in advance – call the restaurant as soon as you plan to get on this list. Also, if you don’t mind a short drive, Sorrento’s in Banner Elk is another beautiful option for a special night out. This whole area is just charming to stroll and enjoy the sights.
Evening: Fire, Wine & Quiet time together
Head back for a slow, quiet evening. Light a fire, pour a glass of wine, and enjoy the stillness- this is what makes a mountain getaway feel different and oh so worth it.
Day 2: Views, Exploring & Unforgettable Moments
Morning: Coffee with a View
Start your day slowly. Coffee in the mountains just feels different—especially when you’re overlooking water or long-range views.
Mid- Morning: One Incredible Hike
You don’t need to do everything—just pick one great hike.
Rough Ridge offers some of the most iconic views in the area and is well worth the stop. If you’d prefer something a little more relaxed, a waterfall hike like Crab Orchard Falls is a beautiful option.
Optional Adventure: Glen Burney Falls
If you’re up for something a little more adventurous, Glen Burney Falls is a stunning hike located right off downtown Blowing Rock. It’s steeper and can be slippery after rain, but the waterfalls are absolutely worth it.
Afternoon: Blowing Rock Stroll & Hidden Gems
Spend the afternoon in downtown Blowing Rock—one of the most charming and romantic areas in the mountains. The town is filled with flowers, tucked-away walkways, and little hidden corners that make it feel special.
Try to arrive before the shops close, then stay as the sun begins to set—it’s even more beautiful in the evening.
Wine & Charcuterie Stop
Tucked along one of the side streets, Sunset & Vine is the perfect place to slow down. Build your own charcuterie board, enjoy a glass of wine, and take a moment to just sit and enjoy being there.
Quick Stops Worth Making
Pop into Six Pence Pub for something cozy like shepherd’s pie or a drink on the patio, or simply wander, some of the best parts of Blowing Rock are the places you don’t plan.
The Blowing Rock (Easy + Beautiful!)
For one of the most iconic views in the area, stop at The Blowing Rock. It’s incredibly easy to access, and you can walk right out to take in expansive mountain views—perfect even if you’re dressed up for the evening.
Sunset on the Blue Ridge
One of the most memorable experiences is packing a simple picnic and heading to the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are endless overlooks where you can pull off, enjoy the view, and watch the sun go down. It’s quiet, simple, and incredibly romantic.
Dinner: Your Date Night
Choose somewhere that feels like an occasion. Whether it’s a refined dinner at Gideon Ridge, a cozy evening at Hellbender, or another favorite spot, this is the night to slow down and enjoy a great meal together.
Where to Stay for a Romantic Getaway

A Stay That Feels Like a Part of the Experience
Some places are just a place to sleep—but the right place can completely shape your trip.
We can’t get over this place and had to share it. This rental feels unlike anywhere else—it sits right on a stunning creek with incredible views, and it’s stocked with everything you could possibly need. Morning coffee overlooking the water here is something special… it’s hard to find anything that compares.
Wine Tasting in the Mountains
A winery stop is one of the best ways to slow the day down. The Grandfather Vineyard offers a beautiful riverside setting, while Banner Elk Winery is known for its sweeping mountain views. Both are perfect for lingering a little longer than planned. May I suggest the wine flight?
Optional night downtown
If you feel like exploring more, downtown Boone offers a fun change of pace. You can catch a show or classic movie at the Appalachian Theatre, grab a drink at The Horton’s rooftop, or step into Daniel & the Dog—a cozy, speakeasy-style spot tucked away downstairs.
There’s often live music around town, making it a great option if you want a slightly more lively evening. Just strolling the streets are fun and romantic!
Day 3: Slow Morning & One Last Stop
Don’t rush your last morning. One of the best parts of a trip like this is having nowhere to be. Make sure you stay at a place that allows late check out. No one wants to be up and out too early on their last day!
Coffee & Maybe a Little Brunch (When in Rome Boone!)
Grab a relaxed coffee or brunch before heading home- Stick Boy Bread Co. or a local café is always a great choice. Betty’s Biscuits does not disappoint and Local Lion is an absolute MUST try for the very best coffee!
One Last View
If you have time, stop at one final overlook before leaving. It’s the perfect way to end the trip. A favorite is Thunderhill Overlook!

A Trip You’ll Want to Put on Repeat
Boone and Blowing Rock have a way of pulling you back. The combination of fresh air, beautiful views, and slower days makes it the kind of place couples return to again and again.
Some of the best moments aren’t planned—they’re the ones you stumble into along the way. And somehow, it never quite feels like enough time.
